Sightseeing the Eternal City when Coming from Rome Airports.

By: Stefano Sandano

Rome was built not only for walkers and joining limousine or minibus tours is still one of the best way to see the city.

Few cities like Rome have as many as pleasant places to explore. Just a turn at a corner can reveal a ruin or present an unexpected bit of entertainment, like the popular Pyramid of the first century AD built as tomb of the roman governor Caius Cestius sent to Egypt by the emperor Augustus to represent the Roman empire.

If you land at Rome airports in early afternoon you will see, when getting into the city, that many shops close down for lunch and the Romans love to stroll in parks or across big open squares such as Piazza del Popolo or Piazza Navona.

Another important attraction that people getting to Rome can see are the remains of the roman city walls built by the emperor Aurelian in the third century AD. Not everybody know that these city walls were built by the roman soldiers and have the huge extension of eleven miles with almost 400 military watch towers.

Remains of this archaological belt around Rome are everywhere including along the Appian way.
Rome's airport, called Fiumicino or Leonardo da Vinci, is located in the west of Rome, at the end of the Tiber river and is the major airport in Italy.

From this airport it takes about 40 miutes to reach downtown entering the western district of Rome called Ostiense.

It's also good to remember that there are several minor airports in Italy that have now found a niche market in serving low-cost airlines.

The single important monument to be seen on the Ostiense area is the basilica of saint Paul outside the walls, one of the four patriarchal churches in Rome. This church belongs to the Vatican ( that is to say it's not italian territory but part of the vatican in Rome ) and , before it burned to the ground in 1823, the original basilica of the fourth century surpassed even saint Peters in grandeur and lavish decoration.

When instead people drive to Rome because they landed at the minor airport of Ciampino, located in the south of Rome, the main sights to admire is the roman acqueduct built by the roman emperor Claudius in the first century AD and the Appian way, the queen and the first of the roman consular roads.

The appian way was built in the IV century AD in around 20 years to connect Rome and the minor colony of Capua, located near Naples and was used by the Romans to bring the legions until Greece.

      Caribbean Yacht Charter

By: Rob Parker

A Caribbean yacht charter is an exceptional way to visit the Islands.

My wife and I booked our first Caribbean yacht charter and sailed the Islands for three weeks last spring. Having visited many tropical islands, arriving by air and staying ashore, it was time to see things from a new perspective. Neither my wife nor I were experienced sailors, but had met people on prior Caribbean vacations that informed us that a Caribbean yacht charter would change our thoughts on the meaning of a southern getaway.

We arrived in St. Thomas mid afternoon and our Caribbean yacht charter began in Charlotte Amalie. The Captain and crew were awaiting our arrival with tropical drinks and tasty authentic Caribbean foods. The yacht crew stowed our luggage and cast off the lines. Within minutes of our arrival we were sailing on the first leg of our Caribbean yacht charter. Our yacht was in pristine condition. The interior layout was perfect for our needs and there was enough room to keep both guests and crew comfortable for the duration of our Caribbean yacht charter.

Our first stop on our Caribbean Yacht charter was in St. John, UVSI. We anchored the boat in Cruz Bay and took the dingy ashore. We did a little shopping and stopped in at the Famous Beach Bar for some Painkillers. The Captain suggested we find an alternate anchorage, a place where we could swim and relax in calm waters. We sailed out of Cruz Bay and dropped anchor in Caneel Bay for the night. As soon as the crew had secured the yacht my husband and I changed into our swimsuits and dove into the ocean for our first sea bath on our Caribbean yacht charter.

During our Caribbean yacht charter our crew entertained us with much knowledge of fun things to do & see on a Caribbean yacht charter vacation. My wife and I enjoy scuba diving so we asked the Captain to take us to the wreck of the Rhone for our first dive.

Our three -week Caribbean yacht charter flew by, we were having so much fun. We went on countless adventures and met fantastic people aboard their chartered yachts.

My wife booked our next Caribbean Yacht charter before we left, ensuring that the same yacht and crew would be available next year. If you are in need of a wonderful, out of the ordinary Caribbean holiday, charter a
yacht and sail the oceans, your dream vacation awaits you!

Niagara Falls

By: Michael Colucci

Niagara Falls is a group of large waterfalls that are located in the Niagara river on the eastern coast of the United States and Canada. They are located on the border between the two countries, and are composed of three waterfalls. These three waterfalls are the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and the Horseshoe Falls. While these waterfalls are not very high, they are quite wide. Over 5 million cubic feet of water will fall down in a single minute. It is one of the most popular waterfalls in the world, and is the most powerful in the North American continent.

Niagara Falls is a well known site that is a popular tourist attraction. In addition to this, Niagara Falls is known for the hydroelectric power it provides, and the spot was chosen as potential source of power by Nikola Tesla, the famous inventor. A memorial has also been built for him at the site. The three waterfalls are shared by three cities, and these are Niagara Falls, Ontario, and the dual cities of Niagara Falls, New York. It is believed that Niagara Falls formed during a period that is called the Wisconsin glaciation, a period that ended over 9,000 years ago. The Wisconsin glaciation was a large glacier that connected the area with Canada.

The glacier would have moved through the area, crushing surfaces in order to form lakes or rivers. Niagara Falls has a height of about 170 feet, though the American Falls is only about 70 feet. The Canadian Falls are much larger, and have a height of about 2,600 feet. During the best seasons, the amount of water flow will be well over 200,000 cubic feet per second. The word "Niagara" was taken from the Iroquois language, and it can be translated into "strait." The Ongiara were the natives in the area, and were known for settling disputes among the various tribes in the region. Niagara Falls has been visited by a number of historical figures, and one of them was Jerome Bonaparte, the brother of Napoleon Bonaparte.

Niagara Falls became a popular tourist attraction during the 19th century. Because people need to cross over the falls, the Niagara suspension bridge was built. The steel bridge that was originally constructed in 1886 is still used for railroad cars today. Another bridge that was built during this time that is still being used today is the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge. While Niagara Falls is beautiful to look at, it is also an important source of energy. Efforts to tap into the energy of Niagara has existed since the 18th century. It was Daniel Joncairs who first built a canal near the falls to power his sawmill.

Despite, it was Nikola Tesla who worked extensively to tap into the power of the waterfalls. His three phase system for AC current made it possible to transfer electricity from the waterfalls to distant locations. With financial assistance from the Morgan and Vanderbilt family, it was possible to create underground turbines that could generate hundreds of thousands of horsepower. In addition to this, a number of Canadian Companies began harnessing the power of the falls as well.
